Mass in the Attic: English Catholic Material Culture as a tool in the Formation and Expression of Historic, Religious and National Identity by Elizabeth Simpson

Elizabeth’s work addresses how the sacred paraphernalia of Catholicism provided a medium through which English Catholics were able to express their identity. It examines the design solutions that emerged to circumvent Protestant prohibitions on the reification of religion deconstructing object design with an eye to the politico-religious climate in England and transformations of the Catholic aesthetic on the continent.
