Displaying rocks: Science, Shopping and the Sublime by Dorothy Fallon

Packaged, polished and purchased; cut, labelled and classified; enclosed, narrated and visited; Dorothy’s work considers the presentation of rocks and minerals in the landscape, within retail and in a museum collection. The techniques of display used between 1770 and 1829 introduce questions of subject and object, seen and unseen and the aesthetic and scientific.
